Chen will next face world number six Wang Yidi in an all-Chinese semi-final.

Wang came from a game down to beat Japan’s Hitomi Sato 9-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-9 in an absorbing quarter-final.

World number one Fan Zhendong remains on course to win the men’s title at the inaugural edition of the WTT Cup Finals following a straight-game victory.

Jeoung Young-sik of South Korea pushed Fan all the way in the second game but the Chinese star proved too strong, winning 11-6, 16-14, 11-6.

Fan will next face compatriot Wang Chuqin, who overcame England’s Liam Pitchford 11-8, 11-6, 12-10.

Earlier, the remaining last-16 matches were completed as Chinese duo Lin Gaoyuan and Liang Jingkun were both defeated.

Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna upset world number eight Liang with a 7-11, 11-1, 14-12, 11-5 success, while Brazil’s Hugo Calderano downed Lin 11-8, 11-9, 13-11.

The other quarter-final will see Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto and Wong Chun-ting of Hong Kong go head-to-head.

Harimoto beat Sweden’s Mattias Falck 11-6, 11-8, 11-8 and Wong battled past France’s Simon Gauzy 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8.

Sun Yingsha will meet Chen Xingtong in an all-Chinese quarter-final after defeating Germany’s Petrissa Solja 11-4, 11-5, 11-7.

Japan’s Hina Hayata overcame Cheng I-ching of Chinese Taipei 11-6, 11-13, 14-12, 14-12 to secure a last-eight encounter against Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi Kem, who saw off China’s Wang Manyu 11-7, 11-6, 11-7.

Competition is due to continue tomorrow with the remaining quarter-final matches.
