Birmingham 2022 published a series of posts on social media today to highlight athletes who are set to star over the 200m distance at the Games as the countdown continues.

That included a short video with Dean, who shared his motivations for Birmingham 2022 as he eyes a first Commonwealth Games title.

"I'm bringing it home for my family," said Dean.

"They've been there for me through thick and thin and I'm doing it for them."

Dean, who claimed gold in the men's 200m freestyle and 4x200m freestyle relay at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, was speaking as part of England’s "#BringItHome" campaign launched prior to this year's Commonwealth Games.

Birmingham 2022 also shone a light on another English athlete in sprinter Dina Asher-Smith, who will be hoping to secure gold in the women's 200m after winning bronze in the event at Gold Coast 2018.

There were further Birmingham 2022 social media posts on swimmers Sophie Pascoe of New Zealand and Chad le Clos of South Africa.

Pascoe defended her women's 200m individual medley SM10 title at Gold Coast 2018 after carrying the flag for New Zealand at the Opening Ceremony.

Le Clos, the reigning men’s 200m butterfly champion, is the first male swimmer to win the same event at three successive Commonwealth Games following his successes at Delhi 2010, Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018.

Birmingham 2022 organisers are also calling for people to buy tickets for the Games, insisting that the multi-sport event "promises to be the biggest sporting celebration of the summer".

"Be part of the party at the Closing Ceremony or secure your seat to any of the remaining 150 plus sessions of sport that are still available," a statement from Birmingham 2022 read.

"Tickets are settling fast.

"Don’t miss out."

Around 4,500 athletes from 72 nations and territories are set to compete at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, scheduled to run from July 28 to August 8.
