Defending champions Brazil began the Copa América de Futsal with a 5-1 thrashing of Ecuador.

There were five different scorers for Brazil - Bruno, Pito, João Victor, Daniel and Bruno Taffy - in the thumping win at SND Arena in Paraguayan capital Asunción.

Colombia defeated Chile 3-1 in the other Group A match played today.

In Group B, Argentina and Venezuela both began with wins.

Argentina, runners-up when the event was last played in 2017, were indebted to a Pablo Taborda brace as they saw off Bolivia 2-1.

Wilson Francia, Andrés Terán and Carlos Sanz were on the scoresheet as Venezuela defeated Peru 3-2.

Group action continues tomorrow, with the host nation set to play Venezuela in perhaps the pick of the fixtures.
