Tatyana Kiriyenko has been appointed as the Russian Boxing Federation's (RBF) secretary general, a position formerly held by International Boxing Association (IBA) President Umar Kremlev and left vacant after his replacement Kirill Shchekutyev stepped down.

Kiriyenko was elected as a vice-president of the European Boxing Confederation in 2017, becoming the first woman to join its Executive Committee, and two years later became chair of the organisation's Youth Committee.

After being recommended for the post by the Supreme Supervisory Board of the RBF, an Executive Committee meeting unanimously approved Kiriyenko's appointment to the role.

Kiriyenko vowed to build on the RBF's work in developing the sport in Russia.

"I am grateful for the trust placed in me by the Supreme Supervisory Board, the Executive Committee of the Russian Boxing Federation and the entire boxing community of the country," she said.

"I have been working for the benefit of domestic boxing for many years, and I will continue this path.

"Over the past five years, the Russian Boxing Federation has done its best to develop boxing in our country.

"Under the leadership of the team of Umar Kremlev, the Russian Boxing Federation was twice recognised as the best national boxing federation in the world.

"The management experience of our team is today recognized as the best global example and is replicated internationally.

"Now, when Umar Nazarovich is leading the development of boxing all over the world, my main task is to preserve and increase what we have achieved in Russia over the past years of work."

The new secretary general added she was focused on developing the sport particularly in "remote regions of the country - in Siberia and the Far East, where boxing is already a basic sport".

The RBF has also targeted making progress in youth boxing.

Shchekutiev had held the position since January last year, and remains a member of the RBF Executive Committee.

According to the RBF, the decision to leave the secretary general role was "of his own free will".

Kremlev also remains on the RBF Executive Committee, despite stepping down as secretary general after his election as IBA President in December 2020.
