Moore, who is from Hawaii, demonstrated a mastery of the Pipeline wave in her round-of-16 tie against fellow local surfer Bethany Hamilton, receiving a score of 9.50 for an exquisite backdoor ride.

It helped Moore to a two-wave total of 14.67, and Hamilton - a late COVID-19 replacement - had no answer.

Moore was the leading scorer in the round of 16 and repeated the trick in the quarter-finals, seeing off Costa Rica's Brisa Hennessy by 13.33 to 4.37.

Moana Jones Wong ensured there will be two Hawaiians in the semi-finals by getting the better of Brazil's Tatiana Weston-Webb and then Isabella Nichols of Australia.

Another Australian, two-time WSL world champion Tyler Wright, awaits Championship Tour debutant Jones Wong in the semi-finals.

Wright's round-of-16 opponent India Robinson, a fellow Australian, withdrew, before Wright went on to eliminate local surfer Malia Manuel largely off the back of a series on sharp turns riding a wave which gave her a score of 5.17.

Moore will face American Lakey Peterson in the semi-finals.

This is the first full-length women's competition at Pipeline, off the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii, to ever feature on the WSL Championship Tour.
