Al Hilal annihilated Al Jazira 6-1 in the FIFA Club World Cup to book a place in the semi-finals.

The Saudi Arabians are now set to appear in just their second Club World Cup semi-final in history against UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea.

Abdoulay Diaby struck after 14 minutes from a rapid counterattack to give Al Jazira a surprise lead at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

They had three fantastic chances to double their lead before the favourites equalised through former Watford and Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo in the 36th minute.

The Nigerian headed in from close range to bag his first goal for Al Hilal.

Matheus Pereira, who transferred from West Bromwich Albion last summer, then found the top corner to make it 2-1 to the AFC Champions League victors five minutes before half time.

Ahmed Al Attas then missed a golden chances ten minutes in to the second half as Al Jazira were made to rue more squandered opportunities.

Shortly after, Mohamed Kanno punished them from a set piece with a commanding header that flew beyond the reach of captain Ali Khaseif in goal.

Al Hilal were pulsating going forward and a fourth came courtesy of Salem Al-Dawsari who turned in a superb assist from Moussa Marega 15 minutes from time.

Marega then got his own name on the scoresheet following a scramble in the penalty box that resulted in a loose ball being smashed in by the Malian.

Andre Carillo converted a penalty for Al Hilal's sixth in what was a harsh score line for the local side.

Chelsea await for their fixture on Wednesday (February 9) while Palmeiras are set to play Al Ahly in the other semi-final on February 8.

Al Jazira will also play on Wednesday in the fifth-place playoff against Monterrey.
