Toyota's new advert for this year's Super Bowl has moved many as it tells the story of Canada's most decorated Winter Paralympian Brian McKeever and his brother Robin.

Brian McKeever lost his eyesight to Stargadt macular degeneration when he was 19, but with Robin serving as his guide he competed at the 2002, 2006 and 2010 Winter Paralympics.

In total, McKeever, who now has a new guide, has won 17 medals in cross-country skiing, 13 of which are gold, at five Games appearance including Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018.

He was inspired to work with Toyota after seeing its advert with skier Lauren Woolstencroft, an eight-time gold medallist who was born missing both legs below her knee as well as part of her left arm.

"She had a commercial spot as well four years ago, and it was so touching," said McKeever.

"So when we thought about that, it was just exciting."

"And I called Robin and said, 'Hey, we have this opportunity,' and he jumped on.

"We got to do it.

"I've seen a few interesting random posts, just people reaching out saying you know, I have Stargardt's as well.

"They're touched by it and they're excited to see some representation within the Para community, in the blind community and I think that's really important to have."

McKeever has said he hopes the 60-second advert "inspires viewers to start their impossible."

"I’ve learned first hand that anything is possible with perseverance, and the support of a brother, like Robin," he said.

The 42-year-old also has two Paralympic silver medals, at Salt Lake City 2002 and Torino 2006, as well as bronze at Pyeongchang 2018 where he was Canada's flagbearer.

McKeever is set to compete at Beijing 2022 but has announced that he will be retiring after the event.
