Olympic and world silver medallist Beatriz Ferreira was among four female Brazilian boxers that moved to within one victory of a gold medal at the American Boxing Confederation Elite Men’s and Women’s Championships in Guayaquil.

Ferreira proved too strong for Puerta Rica's Narielys Tapia, winning by unanimous decision to secure a showdown with American Rashida Ellis for the women’s lightweight title in the Ecuadorian city.

Ellis defeated Camila Camilo Bravo of Colombia to set up a repeat of the world semi-final in 2019 which Ferreira won.

Beatriz Soares, Rebeca Lima and Bárbara Santos also progressed to the final after winning their respective boats.

Soares overcame Canada’s Charlie Cavanagh in the women’s welterweight semi-finals to move through to the final where she is set to face Argentina’s Noelia Perez Lucia who defeated Stephanie Piñeiro Aquino of Puerta Rico.

Lima progressed to the women’s light welterweight gold medal match after beating Valencia Valentina of Ecuador.

She is now scheduled to face Jajaira Gonzalez of the United States who claimed victory over Valdes Pana Angie Paola of Colombia in the other semi-final.

Santos defeated Maria Hernandez of the Dominican Republic to reach the final of the women’s little middleweight category where she will tackle Pan American bronze medallist Brianda Cruz of Mexico.

Cruz beat Naireshlie Ortiz Alvarado as Puerta Rico had to settle for another bronze medal.

Rosario Milagros Herrera of Argentina and Helen Sanchez of Ecuador are due to meet in the final of the women’s bantamweight class after registering victories today.

In the women’s featherweight division, Amelia Moore of the US and  Lozada Motta of Puerta Rica advanced to the semi-finals.

The focus of the men’s events was on the light heavyweight and super heavyweight quarter-finals.

Miguel Angel Veliz of Chile and Mouafo Feujio Marcel Jerome of Canada guaranteed at least a bronze medal after making the men’s super heavyweight semi-final.

Christian Pinales of the Dominican Republic and Robby Gonzalez of the US won their men’s light heavyweight quarter-final bouts and will face each other for a place in the gold medal match.
