The two teams were almost inseparable in the first-half at the Zlatorog Arena in Celje, but Norway went into the break with a 17-15 advantage after a brilliant save from Jenny Utne launched a counter attack that was finished brilliantly by Lina Mossestad with a lob.

They became only the fifth country to win the Championship on two or more occasions joining the Soviet Union, Russia, Denmark and Romania.

The decider was a rematch of the 2018 final which saw Hungary defeat Norway 28-22 in front of a home crowd in Debrecen.

It was the first time that Hungary won the title, while Norway's first gold medal had come in 2010.

The Netherlands claimed the bronze medal following a comfortable 31-20 victory against Sweden.

The Dutch side were in control for the entirety of the fixture as they went into the break with a 16-12 lead before winning the second half 15-8.

Kim Molenaar led the scoring for The Netherlands with eight goals from 15 shots, while Jessie van de Ruit and Pipy Wolfs were also impressive on attack with five and four goals, respectively.
