Hosts Colombia got their Copa América Femenina campaign off to a flying start with a 4-2 victory over Paraguay at the Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero in Cali.

Captain Daniela Montoya struck twice and Mayra Ramirez and Manuela Vanegas grabbed the others as Colombia flourished on home soil.

Montoya netted the rebound after Leicy Santos’ shot was saved on 22 minutes before Paraguay soon silenced the home crowd with a superb strike from Jessica Martinez.

Martinez’s free-kick from distance found the bottom corner to put Paraguay back on level terms on 27 minutes.

Colombia went ahead again on 33 minutes when Ramirez headed home Santos' cross.

The hosts remained on top before Montoya scored her second from another rebound just shy of the hour mark.

Vanegas then sealed victory for Colombia with a header on 82 minutes before Fany Gauto scored a late consolation for Paraguay.

Despite Colombia’s big opening-day win, it is Ecuador who top group A after thrashing Bolivia 6-1 at the Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero.

Ecuador established a 3-0 lead at halftime thanks to goals from Miller Bolaños, Danna Pesántez and Marthina Aguirre.

Bolivia got one back through Érika Salvatierra on 59 minutes before Ecuador responded with two goals in the space of six minutes.

Giannina Lattanzio and Joselyn Espinales gave Ecuador an unassailable lead with 15 minutes to go before Bolaños completed her brace in injury-time.

Competition is due to continue with Group B matches as Uruguay and Venezuela go head to head before defending champions Brazil meet Argentina at the Estadio Centenario.
