The quartet of Barclay Izzard, Sian Rainsley, Samuel Dickinson and Kate Waugh took the win by 13 seconds in a total time of 1hr 20min 50sec.

New Zealand's Hayden Wilde led the field after the first leg, with yesterday's men's race winner posting the second-fastest time of the day in 18min 56sec, a second in front of Switzerland's starter Max Studer.

The pair were clear of a contingent of Australia, Britain, Germany, Japan and Czech Republic by 10 seconds.

But Britain and Germany were able to overturn that gap thanks to Rainsley and Lisa Tertsch putting in some of the fastest times amongst the women.

Denmark's Alberte Kjær Pedersen put in the fastest women's time in 21:08.

Matthew Hauser brought the Australians level with the other leaders on leg three, posting the fastest men's time in 18:48, 21 seconds faster than the next-quickest athlete.

Simon Westermann brought Switzerland back into contention, while Dickinson and Lasse Nygaard Priester kept Britain and Germany in with medal hopes.

The difference-maker was Waugh on the last leg for Britain, who pulled 10 seconds out on Laura Lindemann from Germany to bridge a gap between the teams, while taking 15 seconds out of Australia's Natalie Van Coevorden, who had led the fourth leg by two seconds when she had started.

Switzerland's Julie Derron was side-by-side with the Australian at the start of leg four, but she fell out of the medal positions down to fourth.

The next leg of the World Triathlon Championship Series is scheduled to take place in Cagliari, Italy, on October 7 and 8.
