Christine Mboma, who won 200 metres silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics last year, becoming the first Namibian woman to win an Olympic medal, is one of the flagbearers.

Mboma missed the World Athletics Championships in Eugene earlier in the month through injury.

Paralympic champion Ananias Shikongo won gold in the men's T11 200m at 2016 Rio.

He competed at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games but just missed out on a medal, finishing fourth over 200m.

Namibia is set to field competitors in athletics, boxing, cycling, swimming, bowls and Para sports at Birmingham 2022.

The team was given a send off by Namibian Olympic Committee vice-president Gaby Ahrens.

"It is not about your first or last name, it's about the colours that you will wear that will show you're from the Land of the Brave," Ahrens told them.

Four years ago on the Gold Coast, Jonas Jonas won men’s light-welterweight boxing gold and Helalia Johannes won the women's marathon less than 24 hours later.

The two gold medals represented Namibia's entire haul for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
