The 2023 European Olympic Committees (EOC) General Assembly is set to take place on October 6 to 7 in Istanbul next year.

The Turkish city was confirmed as the host at the governing body's last General Assembly in Skopje last month prior to exact dates being confirmed at the Executive Committee Meeting here in Banská Bystrica's Radnica.

The panel approved the dates during its meeting at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Slovakia which is being hosted by the EOC.

It was then agreed that a discussion on the format of the General Assembly would occur at the EOC seminar due to take place in Olympia from September 30 to October 1 in order "to ensure it is as interactive as possible for National Olympic Committees."

All of the EOC's commission chairs are expected to be present at the Greek gathering including Sustainability and Active Society Commission chair Berit Kjøll.

The Norwegian reiterated the importance of the EOC progressing towards signatory status of the United Nation's sport for climate action framework.

It was agreed that the governing body would take the lead on sustainability in the European Olympic Movement by signing the framework and aligning with existing signatory ANOC to encourage NOCs to follow suit.

The EOC Articles of Association state that the upcoming General Assembly should have been held by June 30, however the Turkish Olympic Committee requested that next year's gathering be pushed back until October in order to avoid a clash with the country's general election on June 18, with a second round of voting scheduled for July 2 if required.
