World bronze medallist Janee' Kassanavoid led a strong opening day for the United States team at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Championships in Freeport in the Bahamas as the nation won every gold medal on offer.

Kassanavoid, who became the first Native American to finish on the podium at the World Athletics Championships earlier this year, threw 71.51 metres to claim victory in the women's hammer throw at the Grand Bahama Sports Complex.

Compatriot Brooke Andersen was her closest rival with 68.66m and Canada's Jillian Weir threw 66.20m to come third.

Vashti Cunningham, a former world indoor champion, triumphed in the women's high jump through a leap of 1.92m.

Fellow American Rachel Glenn followed with 1.84m, which proved just enough to beat Mexico's Ximena Esquivel who cleared 1.81m.

Laulauga Tausaga-Collins struck gold in the women's discus thanks to a distance of 63.18m, which bettered Cuba's Denia Caballero on 61.86m and fellow American Rachel Dincoff on 61.56m.

The US produced podium clean sweeps in the other two women events of the day.

Natosha Rogers clocked 15min 11.68sec to win gold in the 5,000 metres with Fiona O'Keefe and Eleanor Fulton trailing behind in 15:15.13 and 15:50.31, respectively.

Gabrielle Jennings was the victor in the 3,000m steeplechase, finishing in 9:34.36, to lead Katie Rainsberger and Carmen Graves home.

Roger Steen shone for the US in the men's shot put, posting 20.78 metres to beat compatriot Adrian Piperi to gold by just 0.02m.

Jamaica's O'Dayne Richards achieved bronze via a throw of 20.05m.

Chris Benard won the triple jump with a best effort 16.40m.

Jah-Nhai Perinchief of Bermuda obtained silver for registering 15.89m and Taeco O'Garro of Antigua and Barbuda jumped 15.70m to win the bronze medal.

The US had another one-two in the men's 10,000 metres through the success of Sean McGorty and Dillion Maggard.

McGorty sprinted to the finish in 29:23.77 to seal the title while Maggard won silver by narrowly edging Canada's Andrew Alexander.

Maggard crossed the line in 29:33.67, which was enough to best Alexander by 0.16sec.

The 2022 NACAC Championships are due to continue tomorrow.
