New Zealand's Sam Gaze and Pauline Ferrand-Prevot of France won men's and women's cross-country short track gold medals at the International Cycling Union (UCI) Mountain Bike World Championships in Les Gets in France.

Gaze added to his 2022 Commonwealth Games cross-country gold medal by pacing his race to perfection, pulling away in the last of the 10 laps.

He crossed the line in 22min 21sec, three seconds in front of Filippo Colombo of Switzerland.

Colombo's team-mate Thomas Litscher was seven seconds behind the leader for the bronze medal.

South African Alan Hatherly and Martins Blums of Latvia completed the top five.

Ferrand-Prevot was a lot more comfortable in the women's race, winning gold in a time of 21:56.

Alessandra Keller of Switzerland crossed the line after 22:14 for silver, three seconds in front of Gwendalyn Gibson from the United States.

Swiss Olympic gold medallist Jolanda Neff and British rider Evie Richards - last year's cross-country world champion - rounded out the top five.

Earlier in the day, Switzerland's Nicole Goldi and France's Jerome Gilloux claimed the women's and men's e-mountain bike cross-country crowns.

Goldi was far in front of the rest of the field in the women's race, clocking a time of 47:00, 1:15 ahead of French rider Justine Tonso.

Nathalie Schneitter made it two Swiss cyclists on the podium, finishing third.

Sofia Wiedenroth of Germany and Argentina's Sofia Gomez Villafane completed the top five.

Gilloux led a French one-two in the men's race, crossing the line in 52:21, with Hugo Pigeon taking the silver medal, in 52:50.

Switzerland's Joris Ryf denied an all-French podium, beating Emeric Ienzer to the line for bronze.

Andrea Garibbo of Italy was fifth.
