Clarke_CarlisleDecember 13 - A collection of learning and teaching materials inspired by major sporting events, including London 2012, has been made available online by League Football Education (LFE).

The new website, accessed via JorumOpen, provides resources to inspire thousands of youngsters towards gaining functional skills qualifications that will benefit them for life.

The facility has been developed in conjunction with a number or professional athletes including six times world champion kayaker Anna Hemmings, former Commonwealth Games gold medallist swimmer Adam Whitehead, current judo Paralympian Darren Harris and inline skating champion Jenna Downing.

Functional skills concentrate on the core principles of the key subjects of English, mathematics and ICT to provide individuals with skills for everyday life.

LFE has added an Olympic and Paralympic Games context to invigorate the learning materials for 14 to 19-year-old learners to access all over the country.

Freely available via JorumOpen, an online repository of learning and teaching materials, the e-learning materials, which have gained the London 2012 Inspire Mark, will provide the education sector with a lasting legacy and potentially save education providers millions of pounds in development costs.

Burnley FC player Clarke Carlisle (pictured), who contributed to a football-specific version of the content, said: "The materials are designed to show relevance to scenarios that you would encounter in a chosen sport.

"They will benefit hundreds of young people and deliver a lasting legacy far beyond the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games."
