The International University Sports Federation (FISU) World Cup Combat Sports closed today in Samsun after 10 days of action across six sports, which FISU Executive Committee member Gabriel Kotchofa called a "wonderful festival of sports".

It follows the conclusion of competition today, where medals were awarded in wrestling, boxing and karate.

Hosts Turkey finished top of the medal table in front of Ukraine and Iran.

Later at night, Ondokuz Mayıs University hosted the Closing Ceremony featuring hundreds of people to formally end the event.

Turkish University Sports Federation President Mehmet Günay was the first to speak, thanking everyone for their support and congratulating those who competed over the World Cup.

Following him was Kotchofa, who thanked all stakeholders and athletes.

"Regardless of the score, you all emerged victorious from this World Cup," said Kotchofa.

"You all are our shining stars, and I am sure that a shining future is ahead of you.

"I hope that the spirit of brotherhood, friendship and memories of this event will be with you for many years to come.

"You offered us a wonderful festival of sports, and the days we spent in Samsun will always be in our hearts and memories."

The next FISU World Cup is to take place in Istanbul in late October, for 3x3 basketball.
