Chile's Emanuelle Silva won the first gold medal of the South American Games in Asunción, triumphing in the men's 200 metres skating event.

Silva crossed the line in 17.717sec to snatch victory away from Colombia's Steven Villegas, who clocked 17.868.

Another Colombian, Jhon Tascon, was third.

Sheila Muñoz won the equivalent women's race for Colombia in 19.100, with Chile's Maria Jose Moya second and Maria Loreto Arias from Ecuador third.

Ecuador's Gabriela Vargas Sarmiento won the women's 1,000m and Andres Jimenez Torre️️️️️️s of Colombia was the men's 1,000m victor.

Colombians won six inline skating medals in all on day one of competition in the Paraguayan capital.

Medals were on offer across 10 disciplines today including triathlon - in which there was double joy for Brazil.

Miguel Hidalgo won the men's sprint and Luisa Baptista claimed women's sprint gold.

Baptista led an all-Brazilian podium as Vittoria Lopes was second and Djenyfer Arnold third.

Gabriela Mazetto was another Brazilian gold medallist, recording a commanding victory in the women's street skateboarding final.

Mazetto's score of 170.990 points was more than 10 clear of runner-up Carla Karolina Dos Santos Silva, also from Brazil.

Peru's Deyvid Anderson Tuesta Mota won the men's event.

Cross-country mountain bike also brought four Brazilian medals - two of them gold.

Raiza Goulão Henrique won the women's race and Gustavo Xavier De Oliveira Pereira was the men's victor.
