Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) President Yousef Al Mana has claimed Qatar could host the Olympic Games at any point, having held the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the tail end of last year.

Al Mana, also the President of Qatar Fencing and Weightlifting Federations and Qatar Olympic Committee first vice-president, spoke to state news agency, Qatar News Agency, saying it could host the Games tomorrow due to its hotels, stadiums, halls and transportation process.

Qatar is set to host the 2030 Asian Games and has failed officially on two occasions to be shortlisted in the bidding process for the Olympics - in 2016 and 2020.

Additionally, the QOC was in talks with the International Olympic Committee before Brisbane was awarded the 2032 Games.

Al Mana added that hosting any event "must be supported by expertise and a bright vision for the future" when speaking to Qatari News Agency.

The Qatari did admit work would need to be done on outlining technical and economic documentation in the best possible way.

Al Mana mentioned the 2036 and 2040 Games as potential events the country could hold.

Several nations have expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics and Paralympics, including: Egypt, South Korea, China, India, Indonesia, Italy, United Kingdom, Turkey, Denmark, Canada, Mexico and even a joint-bid from Germany and Israel to mark 100 years since the controversial Berlin 1936 Olympics.

Al Mana was recently elected to a third-term as the President of the AWF, having ran unopposed.
