Luca Haltrich led a Hungarian one-two today at the Friuli Venezia Giulia 2023 Winter European Youth Olympic Festival to claim short track speed skating gold.

She crossed the line in 45.417sec which crowned her champion in the girls 500 metres final, beating compatriot Dora Szigeti by 0.101.

Poland's Hanna Mazur clinched the bronze medal with a time of 46.299, beating a countrywoman of her own to the podium in the form of Kornelia Wozniak who clocked in after 46.526.

Linards Reinis Laizans of Latvia was victorious in the boys 500m.

He finished in 43.734 to beat Serbian Luka Jasic and Dominik Palenceusz of Poland with 43.805 and 43.909, respectively.

Slovenia's Nika Prevc picked up gold in the girls normal hill individual ski jumping event with a score of 230.6 to beat the 207.3 set by Sina Arnet of Switzerland and Czech Republic's Anezka Indrackova on 196.5.

With 268.8 points, Austrian Stephan Embacher downed Polish duo Klemens Joniak and Wiktor Szozda on respective totals of 248.1 and 246.6 in the boys normal hill individual.

Mathilda Scheid of Germany pipped Adela Keclikova to victory in the girls snowboard parallel giant slalom final while Marie Gams of Austria.

Italian Mike Santuari led the boys podium in the discipline ahead of Petar Gergyovski of Bulgaria and Austria's Werner Paul Gerhard Pietsch.

Santuari's compatriot Gabriele Matli triumphed in the boy's 10km individual classic cross-country skiing event.

He finished in 27:05.7 to deny a Swedish one-two, with Simon Nordlander and Hugo Nilsson following him across the line.

A Swede did win gold in the girls 7.5km individual classic as Mira Goeransson recorded a time of 23:00.2.

Silva Kemppi of Finland took silver in 23:35.0 before Germany's Lena Einsiedler made up the top three in 23:41.1.

The action is set to continue tomorrow with medals to be won in nine sports.
