The rain came hurtling down but it did not deter the Germans from gold as they set an overall score of 736.9.

They started off with 240.4 from the first round which left them second in the standings but leading totals of 245.5 and 251.0 pushed them to victory.

The result marked Wellinger's second gold medal after he triumphed in the men's individual event yesterday.

"That was an absolutely cool weekend - to finish twice at the top is terrific," he said.

"Winning with the team is always something special.

"I worked myself in well during today's competition and finished with the best jump.

"That was the perfect preparation for Planica."

Slovenians Maksim Bartolj and Ziga Jelar amassed 703.1 points to secure second place.

Their results got progressively worse throughout the event but a huge first-round score of 246.5 proved key in clinching a podium place.

"The problem was the extremely heavy rain, we all had totally wet suits after quite a short time, but it was the same for everyone," said Jelar.

"On the other hand, the iorun track was pretty OK until the end, I was afraid that the track would suffer more."

Philipp Aschenwald and Clemens Aigner comfortably rounded out the top three on 700.8, 17 points ahead of Norway's Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal and Daniel Andre Tande.

A second-best run on the final round from the Austrian duo nearly saw them snatch silver.

The competition was just the second time that the super team event has taken place, with the World Cup leg in Lake Placid last week hosting the inaugural edition.

The World Cup circuit will take a break until March 10 as the Nordic World Ski Championships are set to take place from February 21 to March 5.
