Organisers of the Trinidad and Tobago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games have launched the application process for more than 1,000 volunteers.

More than 50 different volunteering roles are available, including meet and greeters, registration attendants, event coordinators and prize-giving assistants.

Sports ambassador roles are open to all aged 16 and over at the start of the month, and organisers say successful applicants will be "the face of the Games".

Interviews are scheduled for May 2023, followed by training for successful applicants.

Applicants for pre-Games roles must be available from July 20 to August 2, and post-Games roles from August 12 to 20.

The Commonwealth Youth Games are scheduled for August 4 to 11.

Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee President Diane Henderson said the country is looking forward to staging the Commonwealth Youth Games for the first time.

"We look forward to welcoming the Commonwealth to Trinbago 2023, with young athletes and spectators from across the globe set to join us in August," Henderson said, as reported by the Trinidad and Tobago Newsday newspaper.

Aquatics, athletics and Para athletics, road and track cycling, Fast5 netball, rugby sevens, triathlon and beach volleyball are on the programme for the Games.

This year is set to mark the first time the event has been held since it was staged in the Bahamas in 2017.

Trinidad and Tobago was initially awarded hosting rights in June 2019 after Northern Ireland's capital Belfast was stripped of the event due to political deadlock, but the COVID-19 pandemic and changes to the sporting calendar led to the 2021 edition being postponed.

The Caribbean nation was approved as the host for 2023 at last year's Commonwealth Games Federation General Assembly.

More than 1,000 athletes aged between 14 and 18 are expected to feature at the Games.
