Iran defeated Japan in dominant fashion as they secured their third ever Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Beach Soccer Cup in Pattaya, Thailand.

They are now equal with Japan with the same number of titles, after beating the holders 6-0 in today's final.

Japan were the defending champions as they won the event in 2019 after defeating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on penalties, at an edition which was also held in Pattaya.

Iran were impressive throughout the tournament, dating back to their opening match where they defeated Malaysia 14-5.

They then eased past Uzbekistan 11-2 and defeated two-time champions UAE 7-2 to cap off a tremendous group stage performance that saw them score 32 goals and concede only nine.

The Persians then faced their toughest match-up yet, as 2015 champions Oman pushed them hard, although Iran ran out 6-3 winners.

Oman defeated the UAE 4-2 to take third.

Japan's Takuya Akaguma was instrumental to his nation's run to the finals, scoring nine goals, while the Iranian trio of Moslem Mesigar, Ali Mirshekari and Mohammed Mokhtari all scored six goals.

The top four nations at the Asian Cup are set to compete at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, which is due to be held from November 16 to 26 in the UAE.
