The French Railways Company (SNCF) has become the latest official supporter of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

"Supporting major sporting and popular events is part of the DNA of our group," said SNCF chairman Jean-Pierre Farandou.

"The railway workers will deploy all their energy and expertise in the service of these Olympic and Paralympic Games, in order to offer a memorable experience to French and international travellers."

Through SNCF Voyageurs, it will be responsible for transporting athletes, officials and other members of the Olympic family to outlying venues.

These will include Lille, set to host preliminary basketball and the handball tournament.

Trains will also service the football centres in Lyon, Saint-Étienne, Nice, Bordeaux, Nantes and Marseille which is also the venue for sailing.

Paris 2024 have described the deal as "yet another example of the company’s longstanding ties to sport."

Since 1982 they have supported athletes employed by the railway in a special support programme.

In 2017, SNCF also sponsored the Paris Olympic bid.

They will also sponsor the 2023 Rugby World Cup, scheduled to take place in France in September and October this year.

The Olympic Games are scheduled to begin on July 26 2024.
