Accra Sports Stadium was among the venues toured by the Organising Committee of the 2023 African Para Games, set to be held between September 3 and 12.

African Paralympic Committee President Samson Deen led a tour of the venues for journalists to "inform them about what is really on the grounds and the preparations made so far".

Sitting volleyball and amputee football are the sports set to be held at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Other venues visited include Eden Heights where wheelchair tennis and wheelchair basketball games will be staged, and the Trust Sports Emporium, which is set to host Para volleyball and powerlifting.

Para athletics is due to be held at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The Ga Mashie Hall at the Trust Sports Emporium has a maximum capacity of 1,200 seats.

Eden Heights has a sports complex that houses an indoor hall for badminton, basketball court, swimming pool, Astro turf football field with a few tartan tracks, and a gym.

Deen promised that Ghana would host a "successful" African Para Games, with this year’s event is due to be the first edition of the Games.

Accra was supposed to host the African Games this year but the severe economic crisis in Ghana led to its postponement, with the multi-sport event re-scheduled for March 8 to 23 2024.

The West African nation experienced average price rises of 41 per cent over the last year and a sharp decline in its credit currency, leading to protests for the removal of President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The International Monetary Fund has recently approved a $3 billion (£2.4 billion/€2.8 billion) bailout, including an immediate $600 million (£482 million/€554 million) for the country to address the issue.

The programme requires structural reforms on tax policy, revenue administration and public financial management, and aims to encourage private investment and growth.

Despite the issues, the African Para Games is due to go ahead as planned.
