Wales have beaten Scotland 10-2 to win the 2023 Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt.

Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price defeated Scottish pairing of Peter Wright and Gary Anderson, both double world champions, to clinch the £80,000 ($101,630/€93,100) first prize in the tournament.

It was the second time they had won as a pair, but their previous victory in 2020 came in a competition staged behind closed doors because of COVID-19.

They had lost in the 2022 final to Australia's Damon Heta and SImon Whitlock.

Wales raced into a three leg advantage and were always in control of the match.

"We got off to a quick start, I don't think Gary and Peter played their best, but we did our job and kept the lead," Clayton told the Sporting Life.

"The belief in each other, the confidence in each other works and when they go, they go pretty, tonight was a good night."

The pair are close friends and Price, known as "The Iceman" paid tribute to Clayton, dubbed "The Ferret" after the victory.

"It's a little bit flattering to win by that margin but we're thrilled to win, I think I struggled a little bit in that game and Jonny won it for us," Price admitted.

Wright and Anderson had won the World Cup of Darts together in 2019.

"The Welsh were the favourites for the tournament and they played fantastic in the final, maybe old age caught up with us," Wright admitted.

The victory has an added bonus for Clayton who joins Price as a confirmed qualifier for the PDC 2023 Grand Slam of Darts which is scheduled to begin on November 11 in Wolverhampton.

Wright and Anderson are also provisionally set to feature in the tournament.
