Celebrations have been held across China to mark a month until the start of the Chengdu 2021 International University Sports Federation World University Games.

The multi-sport event has twice been delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic and is scheduled to get underway on July 28.

The Dong’an Lake Sports Park Multi-Purpose Gymnasium, which is due to host artistic gymnastics competition during Chengdu 2021, featured the beats of 30 Chinese drums as part of a countdown event.

At the Fenghuangshan Sports Park Gymnasium, which is scheduled to host basketball competition, a football match was staged between a team of celebrities from Chinese Hong Kong and a group of the city’s residents.

Meanwhile Baiqiang Park hosted a range of activities including street dancing, cycling and mini-marathons.

The Relay of the Chengdu 2021 Flame, which began earlier this month, also continued, reaching Yibin City.

Chinese gymnast Feng Zhe, a double Olympic champion, was among those to carry the Torch, named Rong Huo, through Yibin City.

Competition is due to run until August 8, with 18 sports on the programme.
