A European Olympic Committees (EOC) delegation is set to visit Skopje to assess the city's potential for hosting the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF).

North Macedonia had previously expressed an interest in hosting a future edition of the event with the capital the most likely destination.

The EOC did not give a timeframe for the meeting but merely stated it would be "soon" in a series of updates from EYOF Commission chair Líney Rut Halldórsdóttir.

The meeting will mainly revolve around assessments of Skopje's existing infrastructure to see if it is suitable and capable of holding the summer version of the Festival.

The EYOF Commission is set to next meet in Brussels on November 8 after it was moved away from Iceland.

It is likely that if Skopje is deemed worthy, it could host as soon as 2025.

The EOC Executive Committee initially approved the candidature "due to the urgency of confirming a host for 2025 EYOF".

Skopje also hosted the EOC General Assembly last year.

The next edition of the summer EYOF is set to take place in the Slovenian city of Maribor from July 23 to 29 this year.

It is due to be the 17th edition and was originally supposed to take place in Koper, also in Slovenia.

Rut Halldórsdóttir claims that "preparations are going well and there is confidence that it will be a very professional event".

It is claimed that the Local Organising Committee has been speaking to past hosts to ensure the event is held to the highest standard.
