China captured four more diving gold medals to complete a clean sweep at the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer World University Games in Chengdu.

The Chinese team were utterly dominant over the past eight days of diving competition at the Jianyang Cultural and Sports Center Natatorium, winning all 15 titles on offer.

Huang Zigan emerged victorious in the men’s 10 metres platform final after registering a winning total of 551.55 points.

It was a stunning score from Huang who overcame fellow Chinese diver Yang Ling who had to settle for silver with 528.85.

Third place was taken by South Korea’s Shin Jung-whi after totalling 411.60 - almost 140 adrift of Huang’s total.

There was also success for China in the men’s team, women’s team and mixed team final, underlining their dominance in the sport in Chengdu.

China also had a successful day on the badminton courts as they won four of the five events taking place at the Shuangliu Sports Center Gymnasium today.

Wang Zhengxing captured the men’s singles crown following a 21-16, 21-14 victory over Thailand’s Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul.

Han Yue was crowned women’s singles champion courtesy of her 21-9, 21-13 triumph against South Korea’s Kim Ga-ram.

There was an all-Chinese men’s doubles final with Ren Xiangyu and Tan Qiang beating Zhou Haodong and He Jiting 23-21, 21-16.

China also claimed the top two spots in the women’s doubles as Li Wenmei and Liu Xuanxuan came from behind to beat compatriots Xia Yuting and Du Yue 18-21, 21-19, 21-14.

The mixed doubles final was an all Chinese Taipei affair with Ye Hong-wei and Lee Chia-hsin defeating Lee Fang-chih and Teng Chun-hsun 21-15, 21-17.

Four gold medals were won by China on the final day of swimming action with Li Bingjie and Zhang Yufei finishing the event with a combined total of 17 titles at the Dong-an Lake Sports Park Aquatics Center.

Li stormed to women’s 400m freestyle gold in 4min 08.38sec before leading China to women’s 4x100m medley relay glory in 3:59.67 to take her final total to eight titles.


Zhang was also part of that team as she clinched her ninth gold with victory in the women’s 50m freestyle final in a time of 24.29sec.

China’s other gold medal in the pool came courtesy of their men’s 4x100m medley relay team who overcame Italy and Japan to take top spot.

Italy earned two more swimming titles with Giovanni Izzo and Crispino Antonella capturing the respective men’s 50m freestyle and women’s 200m butterfly crowns.

Kaito Tabuchi struck gold in the men’s 400m medley final, while Lithuania’s Kotryna Teterevkova secured the women’s 50m breaststroke title.

China also enjoyed water polo success as they beat Italy 12-7 in the women’s final.

Italy did come out on top in the men’s volleyball gold-medal match thanks to their 25-23, 25-18, 28-26 victory over Poland.

Fencing competition also came to a close with Hong Kong winning men’s foil team gold and France sealing the women’s sabre team title.

The Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games are due to conclude tomorrow with the men’s water polo final and bronze-medal match followed by the Closing Ceremony.
