Heiko Kröger has become one of the first gold medallists at the Sailing World Championships in The Hague by claiming an unassailable lead in the 2.4 metre Norlin OD.

Having triumphed in all but two races, the German ended Monday with a bullet and two second-place finishes.

"Today was very tricky and very challenging because the wind went up and down," said Kröger.

"We had some major wind shifts and patches on the water and that was not easy to sail.

"My speed was pretty good and the conditions over the week were very good.

"For me it was a great week. Tonight I will have a drink or two."

Joining the Sydney 2000 Paralympic champion on top of the podium was the French duo of Olivier Ducruix and Ange Margaron in the RS Venture Connect.

After winning all six races until now, Ducruix and Margaron finished Monday with a bullet.

"From the first race to the last, it was so nice to say we are here," said Ducruix.

"We are so happy with the result.

"It was a perfect week.

"Every race was interesting and we had such good races.

"It was amazing to be here, it gave us so much pleasure."

With two wins out of three, Daniela Moroz of the United States had a good outing in the women's formula kite.

Madeleine Anderson of Britain won the other race in the yellow fleet.

In the men's formula kite, Max Maeder of Singapore and Toni Vodisek of Slovenia stood out.

Both sailors had three bullets each in the yellow and blue fleets.

Sebastian Kordel of Germany and home favourite Luuc van Opzeeland were the tope performers as men's iQFOiL races began.

The duo finished with two bullets from four races.

Meanwhile, Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti of Italy continued to dominate the Nacra 17 standings despite a poor day.

They finished with ninth, 12th, and fifth in three races as John Gimson and Anna Burnet of Britain won the first race of the day.

The final race was won by Swedish pair of Emil Jarudd and Hannah Jonsson.

There was more joy for Italy when Giacomo Ferrari and Bianca Caruso reduced the gap at the top with leaders Keiju Okada and Miho Yoshioka of Japan in the mixed 470 class.

Finally, Maria Hungarian Erdi helped managed to establish a one-point lead in the ICLA 6 against  Carolina Albano of Italy.
