There was treble success for Ireland on day three of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) World Championships here through Ciara Fitzsimons, Finn Martin and Sarah Lehane.

Fitzsimons provided Ireland's first victory of the World Championships in the Finnish city when she triumphed in the women's sparring 50 to 55 kilograms category.

She overcame Germany's Yra Labrie 2-1 in a close final to take gold.

Fitzsimons had earlier beaten Dilrabo Tairova of Uzbekistan 3-1 in the semi-finals, her opponent sharing bronze with Argentina's María Fernanda Sanchis.

Martin earned pattern silver in the men's second dan category yesterday, but was not to be denied gold in the up to 57kg sparring event.

He edged past Uzbekistan's Shokhjakhon Ergashev 2-1 in the final, with the beaten semi-finalists Declan McAvoy of Scotland and Jonathan Barco of Argentina.

Lehane capped off a successful day for Ireland with victory in the women's 55 to 60kg, thrashing Norway's Aurora Dønheim Berle 4-0 to take gold.

Bronzes went to The Netherlands' Sam Delrock and Poland's Nikola Wita.

Norway repeated yesterday's double triumph to move top of the medals table with four golds.

Magomed Naurdinov won the men's sparring 69 to 75kg final 3-1 against Ireland's Luke Moriarty, and Helene Semb prevailed in the women's sparring 70 to 75kg final 4-0 against Slovenia's Elizabeta Crnkovic.

Hosts Finland also enjoyed a successful penultimate day with golds from Mira Sjövall, who followed up yesterday's pattern triumph by beating Argentina's Camila Canut 3-0 in the women's sparring 60 to 65kg final, and in the men's team power test at the expense of Romania and Hungary in a tiebreak.

Žiga Zagoranski in the men's sparring 57 to 63kg, Tyra Barada in the women's sparring up to 50kg and Urša Terdin in the women's 60 to 65kg category provided golds for Slovenia.

Mailen Palavecino earned Argentina's second gold of the World Championships in the women's sparring over-75kg.

The other sparring winners in the men's events were Timothy Bos at 63 to 69kg who provided Italy's second gold of the World Championships, Artur Kuzmin who won Ukraine's first at 81 to 87kg and Sweden's Dino Mujanovic who did likewise at over-87kg.

Gracen Holowiski earned Canada's second gold in the women's individual special technique.

The ITF World Championships is set to conclude tomorrow, with medals tables led by Argentina in the junior category for athletes aged 15 to 17 and Romania in the pre-junior for those aged 12 to 14.
