Lexi Thompson of the United States will hit the opening tee shot at the 2023 Solheim Cup as they look to prevent team Europe from a historic and first-ever three-peat.

Two teams of 12 will battle it out for three days and 28 points at the Finca Cortesin Golf Club in Andalucia, Spain, starting tomorrow.

Suzann Pettersen of Norway will lead team Europe, two years after a dramatic 15-13 win over USA in Ohio.

Pettersen guided Europe to victory in her last Solheim Cup appearance in 2019 at Gleneagles.

"I know everything about these players, probably more than they know themselves," said Pettersen as quoted by The Guardian.

"I don’t really have to tell the players what we’re up for.

"I think the players are really on it.

"I think it’s always great to have a possible dream to chase. That’s great.

"But there is so much golf to be played from where we sit here today to the end of Sunday that this is not something that I’m pushing on the players at all.

"We’ll see how every session goes and we’ll try and adjust from there."

Céline Boutier of the France will be the one to look out for in team Europe after winning the prestigious Evian Championship this year.

The United States are leading the head-to-head 10-7 with skipper Stacy Lewis hoping her start-studded arsenal can stop the European winning streak.

World number two Lilia Vu, who won two majors this year along with U.S Women's Open champion Allisen Corpuz is expected to play a vital role for the Americans.

Foursomes and fourball matches will be played on both Friday and Saturday while singles are scheduled for Sunday.

Foursomes will see two players compete side by playing in alternating order on each hole with one . point allocated to each team for a win.

A draw will fetch both teams half a point.

Fourball also involves partners competing side by side but with each player on her own ball and the same point structure as foursomes.
