French riders Victor Koretzky and Loana Lecomte came out on top at the mountain bike test event for next year's Olympic Games in Paris.

The home pair delighted around 3,000 fans at the course at Élancourt Hill which had previously been an unknown quantity.

Koretzky came home in front of Anton Cooper of New Zealand by a single second, with Nino Schurter of Switzerland four seconds back in third.

World silver medallist Lecomte soloed to victory in the women's race, winning by 39 seconds in front of Austria's Laura Stigger.

Alessandra Keller of Switzerland had been in contention for victory but suffered a flat tyre and ended 30th.

France's world champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot finished third, 56 seconds adrift of Lecomte.

Britain's reigning Olympic and world champion Tom Pidcock finished 36th in the men's race after recovering from an infection.

Dutch road race world champion Mathieu van der Poel was also in the field and came home 28th.

Both Pidcock and Van der Poel said the result was not a priority for them and they were simply getting to know the Olympic course before the Games next year.

"I learned some interesting things," the Dutchman, a multiple world champion in cyclo-cross, said.

"I knew I wasn't in the physical condition to finish in the top positions, but it's good to have seen the course and the start too.

"I like the course.

"The Olympic title is still a goal, but it's going to be difficult."

Élancourt is a 4.3 kilometre course which has been designed by Nick Floros, who also created the tracks for the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

It features a 2.2km starting loop before the main circuit.

"It is a beautiful Olympic circuit that will evolve in the right direction," said Lecomte.

"It's real mountain biking, whether downhill, uphill or in the transition phases.

"We have no right to make mistakes."

Ferrand-Prévot added: "Everything is positive.

"It's a course that needs you to be dynamic, to be present.

"When you walk along it, the circuit doesn't seem very difficult, but after two bike rounds you realise that there are no real places to recover.

"But it's a circuit that suits me.

"It's the first time I've said that about an Olympic circuit, so it's a pretty good sign."

Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet was among those in attendance at the test event.

"It's great to be here, to feel that positive energy," the three-time Olympic canoeing champion said.

"Overall, this track is already on a very good level.

"It corresponds to the sporting expectations of an Olympic event."
