Italy sealed a last team eventing place at the Paris 2024 Olympics following the conclusion of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Eventing Nations Cup season in Boekelo in The Netherlands, where France triumphed and Belgium secured overall victory.

The Italians were assured of their place at Paris 2024 because Spain - the only team who could have denied them - did not enter.

One place was available through the FEI Nations Cup to join Olympic hosts France, Germany, the United States, New Zealand, Britain, Ireland, Sweden and Switzerland from last year's Eventing World Championships, Belgium and The Netherlands from the European Eventing Championships, Poland from the Group C qualification event and Australia and China through the Group F and G qualification event.

Only two of the 16 places for team eventing at Paris 2024 are still to be decided at the Pan American Games in Chile's capital Santiago from October 26 to 29.

A fourth win from eight Eventing Nations Cup events this season stands France in good stead going into their home Olympics.

They finished with 97.8 points overall in Boekelo, with Nicolas Touzaint on Diabolo Menthe the individual leader with a final score of 25.4 from the dressage and cross-country following a faultless jumping display in 79.29sec.

Britain finished second at the final event of the season on 111.2, followed by Belgium with 129.0 in third.

That sealed an overall victory in the Nations Cup series for Belgium with 680 points, followed by France on 480 and Italy on 475.
