The relationship between China Media Group (CMG) and Paris 2024 has strengthened further with reports saying a new strategic cooperation agreement was signed this week.

The new deal signed in Paris will see both parties promote the Games and related programmes, with CMG set to assign a 2,000-member team for broadcasting and production, according to a report on CGTN.

The state-owned CMG has already agreed to work with Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), providing coverage of badminton, gymnastics, sport climbing and table tennis in the international signal, known as the "world feed".

CMG President Shen Haixiong and Paris 2024 chief Tony Estanguet signed the latest agreement, with Shen saying separate plans are underway to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France.

Shen hopes the agreement will "deepen cultural exchanges between the two sides in sports, education, film and television", a notion that French Minister of Culture Rima Abdul-Malak agrees with.

Estanguet praised Beijing's hosting of the Summer and Winter Olympics in 2008 and 2022 respectively and gave CMG officials a brief on preparations for Paris 2024.

"There's much to learn from the Paris side, and people of both sides will be brought together in the spirit of the Olympics toward an everlasting friendship," he added.

There was worldwide criticism last year when Beijing staged the Winter Games, due to China's record on human rights.

Its treatment of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang sparked a diplomatic boycott from Western nations including the United States, Australia, Britain, and Canada.

Beijing has always denied accusations of using forced Uyghur labour and detaining people in internment camps, claiming the camps are training centres designed to stamp out Islamist extremism and separatism.

CMG has also extended its tie-up with Agence France-Presse (AFP), the French international news agency, with crews from both organisations set to cooperate on the coverage of the Olympics.

The two countries share strong trade relations, with China being the third largest trade partner for France behind the European Union and the United States.
