The women's football tournament at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago has now reached its final stage, with hosts Chile and Mexico securing their places after defeating the United States and Argentina, respectively.

The Mexicans defeated the Albicelestes 2-0 in the first semi-final and will now prepare to take on the hosts for the gold medal on 3 November at the Elías Figueroa Stadium in Valparaíso.

Thanks to a brace from Lizbeth Ovalle, El Tri - runners-up in 1999 - will be playing for gold for the first time in 24 years. The women's competition made its debut at these Pan American Games in Winnipeg, where Chile lost 1-0 to the United States and had to settle for silver.

Luis Mena's team took the lead in the 37th minute through Karen Araya and Yanara Aedo doubled the lead on the stroke of the first time. The United States came back in the second half through Emeri Adames in the 52nd minute.
