China won its 23rd World Team Table Tennis Championship title, narrowly missing out to Japan in a hard-fought women's team final at the finals of the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Busan 2024 Presented by BNK Busan Bank.

The clash between China and Japan promised to be an exciting evening and it certainly delivered. In a nail-biting battle, China emerged victorious with a hard-fought 3-2 triumph over Japan, demonstrating their continued dominance on the world stage. The BEXCO Convention Centre was electric as the crowd watched the clash of the titans under the bright lights. The showdown began with world number one Sun Yingsha taking on 15-year-old sensation Miwa Harimoto. Despite Harimoto's valiant efforts, Sun Yingsha's dominant performance gave China an early lead with a commanding 3-0 victory. 

In the second match, Chen Meng and Hina Hayata battled hard, with the Japanese coming out on top in a thrilling four-game match against the Olympic singles champion. The unexpected turn of events levelled the match for Japan and added an extra layer of excitement to the competition.

With the pressure mounting, Miu Hirano extended Japan's lead with a stunning 3-0 win over Wang Yidi, leaving China on the brink of defeat. However, Sun Yingsha rose to the occasion and produced a flawless performance to level the scores and force a decisive fifth match. The fate of the Corbillon Cup rested on the shoulders of Chen Meng and Miwa Harimoto, with both players giving their all in a tense battle. Despite Harimoto's spirited efforts, Chen's experience ultimately prevailed to secure China's victory and their 23rd women's team title. 

"It was a really tight but exciting match for us today, and I'm really grateful to my teammates - not just the three of us who played, but also Wang Manyu, Chen Xingtong, our coach Ma Lin and everyone in Team China. We're delighted to have won the final because the fifth game was anything but easy for Chen Meng. Her performance today really touched our hearts and it's thanks to her that we were able to secure today's victory," said Sun Yingsha.

This nail-biting final showcased the incredible talent and resilience of both teams, with China extending its remarkable reign in the women's team at the World Championships Finals.  

As the countdown to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games begins, the thrilling upsets witnessed in Busan showcase the emergence of more contenders and bring a new level of excitement to the sport. Despite coming up short in the final, Japan's heroic performance captivated fans around the world and underlined their formidable presence in the sport. With the women's team competition over, now it's time for the men's team final as China defend their title against France this Sunday in what promises to be another thrilling showdown on the table tennis stage.
