The Ugandan Olympic Committee (UOC) says it is ready for this summer's Olympic Games with a record medal haul expected. The UOC launched its road map to Paris 2024 last week in an event attended by France's ambassador to Uganda, Xavier Sticker.

In Uganda's capital Kampala, the UOC unveiled its road map to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Thursday. Uganda's French ambassador Xavier Sticker, France's Ugandan ambassador Dorren Ruth Amule, State Minister Peter Ogwang and UOC President Donald Rukare were among the dignitaries present at the Copper Chimney Restaurant in Lugogo alongside representatives of partner organisations like the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), Plascon, and Sanlam Insurance.

"France is ready, committed and proud to host the Olympic Games," said Sticker. "The French people will warmly welcome you as we promote the Olympic Solidarity. Seeing the games return to France after 100 years is humbling. These will be games of unity, legacy and memories."

Ogwang insisted, "We shall be in France to compete than merely participate. We have a target of improving our performance than the one in Tokyo, Japan."

Uganda tallied four medals at Tokyo 2020, all in athletics, for their best return at an Olympic Games. Joshua Cheptegei in the men's 5000m and Peruth Chemutai in the women's 3,000m steeplechase made it the first time the East African nation had won multiple Olympic golds, but more is expected in Paris.

Moses Mwase is the country's Chef de Mission for Paris. He said, "Team Uganda is ready and on the journey to good preparations. As of now, we have 21 athletes already qualified. We expect more in badminton and boxing with some wild card invitations. We call upon partners to come on board and support team Uganda."

Donald Rukare, the head of the UOC, conveyed his gratitude for the participation of the ambassadors, ministers, and partners in the ceremony, expressing appreciation for their involvement.

Athletes' representative Ganzi Mugula urged athletes to maintain focus and mental strength during preparations for the games, emphasising the importance of concentration at this crucial stage.
