Kenwright's exit, following a seven-year tenure, coincides with the commencement of the women's European artistic gymnastics championships in Rimini, Italy. During his leadership, the women's team experienced their most prosperous era, highlighted by their first Olympic team medal in 93 years at the Tokyo Games in 2021.

The former head coach did not attend the Tokyo Games, as individual club bosses for the gymnasts were typically prioritised for accreditation at major events. He was also pivotal in GB securing a memorable first-ever World Championships team silver in Liverpool in 2022, and European team gold in Antalya in 2023.

Touching on his departure, he expressed his joy of having had the opportunity to work in the role. “I’ve really loved working with the WAG community, including all the amazing gymnasts, the talented and dedicated coaches, and a great technical committee," he said in a statement issued via British Gymnastics. 

“We’ve achieved a lot together that we can all be immensely proud of and that will have a lasting positive impact for our sport and all those in it.”

British Gymnastics touched on Kenwright's contribution expressing their gratitude and appreciation towards him. "British Gymnastics would like to thank David for the extensive contribution he has made to gymnastics in the UK over the past seven years. We wish him all the best for the future," a statement read.

With attention shifting towards Paris 2024, Tracy Whittaker-Smith, Performance Director (Olympic Disciplines), and Scott Hann, Technical Advisor, will leverage their extensive experience and expertise to guide the team towards the Games. 

Details regarding the coaching team chosen for the Paris 2024 Games will be revealed in collaboration with Team GB in the forthcoming months.

While the official opening ceremony for the Olympics is scheduled for Friday 26 July, the sporting events kick off on Wednesday 24 July, with pool matches in football, rugby sevens, handball, and archery. The Games will continue until 11 August.
