With just three days to go till registration closes, Harry Redknapp (pictured) and Arsene Wenger - who lead North London adversaries Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal - are hoping more people will sign up for the chance to become one of the indispensable guides for visitors to the London Olympics and Paralympics.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson is looking for people of all ages - from across London's communities and who have a passion for their city - to provide visitors with information on how to get to specific places, such as competition venues and the outdoor screens broadcasting the Games, as well as museums, theatres, restaurants and shopping districts.

"Being part of the London Games is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I can't think of a better way of showing off this wonderful city at its best than having an army of enthusiastic, passionate and knowledgeable people right on the front line," said the Mayor.

"As we head towards the final whistle before registration closes, I don't want anyone to let this chance pass them by.

"So if you think you've got what it takes, listen to the giants of these two great London teams and apply quickly before it's too late."

Redknapp said: "I'm extremely proud our capital is hosting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"As well as visiting London to see the world's top sporting stars competing in amazing venues, London's visitors in 2012 are coming to the capital to experience all that London has to offer - its attractions, culture, history - and its people.

"Londoners will play a vital role in welcoming visitors and showing them the real London.

"We want our visitors to remember Londoners as warm, friendly and welcoming - people who want to show off their city and share the parts of London that, as a Londoner, you can personally recommend.

"This is why I encourage Londoners to volunteer as Ambassadors during the Games.

"Not only is this a once in a lifetime opportunity, it's your chance to welcome the world to London in 2012."

Wenger added: "After many years living in the UK's capital, I am immensely proud to now call London my home.

"So, I'm supporting the Mayor of London's plan to recruit Ambassadors who will provide a world-class welcome for visitors to the capital at the time of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.

"Volunteers will provide accurate and helpful information, together with friendly insights into the attractions of London.

"I hope many Arsenal fans will join the programme."

The London Ambassadors, who are different to the 70,000 Games Makers being recruited by London 2012, will be located at one of 35 information booths across the city's transport hubs, Games venues, City Live Sites and tourist hot spots.

They will provide much needed information on what to see and do, where to stay and how to get around the city.

Registration is open here and will close on Friday (January 7).
