Ann and_Mitt_Romney_22-06-12June 23 - Ann Romney, the wife of the Republican's United States Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, is set to have a horse competing at the London 2012 Olympics this summer with the couple both scheduled to be in the capital for the Games.

Ann (pictured above, left) co-owns a horse called Rafalca (pictured below) with 53-year-old dressage trainer Jan Ebeling (pictured below) and both he and the horse have qualified for the Olympics at Greenwich Park by finishing third at a qualifying event at the United States Equestrian Team Foundation headquarters in Florida.

"It's great to be part of the Olympics again," tweeted Ann, who attended the event in person.

"We are so proud of Jan and Team USA.

"Now let's bring home the gold!"

The Romney's will have a huge security entourage at London 2012 due to Mitt's (pictured above, right) status as the Republican US Presidential candidate.

Romney himself has strong links with the Olympic Movement as he was hired as President and chief executive for Salt Lake City 2002 back in 1999.

At the time he was hired, the Games were in major financial crisis and had been damaged by allegations of bribery involving top officials and International Olympic Committee (IOC) members.

However, Romney managed to lead a complete turnaround and received huge praise for ultimately staging a successful Games and creating a profit for Salt Lake City 2002.

Throughout his campaigning against current US President Barack Obama, Romney has continually referenced his role at the 2002 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, saying the event illustrates he is able to be successful on a major stage.

President Obama has not yet confirmed if he will attend London 2012 in person but his wife Michelle Obama will lead the Presidential Delegation to the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony on July 27.

The First Lady has a strong relationship with America's Olympic and Paralympic athletes as well as with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).

She attended the Team USA Media Summit in Dallas last month to launch the Let's Move! initiative to eliminate childhood obesity in the country while she gave a speech to the IOC at its Session in Copenhagen in October 2009, alongside her husband, when Chicago were bidding for the 2016 Games, although the American city lost out to Rio de Janeiro.
