June 2 - Sebastian Coe, the chairman of London 2012, today visited the Shanghai Expo to celebrate the promotion of UK and London at the world’s biggest Expo event.

The UK Pavilion, run by Public diplomacy Partners the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), VisitBritain and British Council, incorporates a London 2012 legacy area in its futuristic display which features a large 'green map' of the 2.5-square-kilometre Olympic Park in East London.

Present at the UK Pavilion were Chinese Paralympians, including Yao Fan, a silver medallist from the the 2008 Beijing Games in wheelchair fencing.

The London 2012 corner was designed by Futurebrand, part of the McCann Worldgroup which has been appointed as the official marketing services provider to the Games.

It focuses on the positive impact of London hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games and takes people through the story of the site both during and after the Games, with a strong focus on legacy.

The London area, run by the London Development Agency (LDA) is part of the Expo’s Urban Best Practice zone.

The theme here is around "London, the Low Carbon Capital" and the city’s creative approach to sustainability.

The LDA and partners are due to a dedicated London Week in July, including a London 2012 day on July 27 to mark the Two Years To Go countdown to the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics.

Coe said: "I am proud that sport has been in so many ways the catalyst for regeneration in east London and I’m delighted that this is reflected in London’s offering for Expo 2010.

"With regeneration on such a scale for the Olympic and Paralympic Games comes great responsibility, so sustainability underpins all of our plans - from the way venues are constructed to the way we stage the Games.

"This approach is demonstrated here in Shanghai, where there is a real focus on sustainable communities and a genuine interest in what we’re doing in London.

"There is a real excitement and appetite for the world to come to London and we look forward to welcoming them before, during and after the Games in 2012."

Carma Elliot, the British Consul General in Shanghai, said: "We were delighted to welcome Sebastian Coe to Expo.

"The UK pavilion in Shanghai is enabling us to offer a spectacular demonstration of UK creativity and dynamism - qualities which are also at the heart of the London 2012 project."
