South Korea’s men’s team got their first win of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Under-18 World Championship Division II Group A competition today.

The side, who lost their first match on Sunday (April 2) 4-2 to Lithuania, saw off Great Britain 3-2 at the Gangneung Hockey Center in the tournament which is acting as a test event for next year’s Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Goals for the host nation came from Jin Geonho, Park Gangeun and Kim Minje while the British scores were bagged by Jordan Buesa and Liam Clark.

Lithuania picked up their second victory of the competition as they saw off Romania 4-3 before the Koreans took to the ice in Gangneung.

Egidijus Binkulis, Patrik Misiuk, Dominykas Motiejunas and Lukas Washco scored for Lithuania.

Andrei Vasile got a brace for the Romanians and Andrei Filip also scored.

The day’s other match saw Croatia take on Estonia, with the latter prevailing 4-3 at the Kwandong Hockey Center.

Kristofer Jogi, Morten Arantez Jurgens, Artur Motskevitsus and Nikita Puzakov were the Estonian scores while Josip Vuglac bagged two and Borna Crnec one for Croatia.

Action will continue tomorrow as Romania play Estonia, Lithuania meet Britain and Korea take on Croatia.

Matches will also be played in the women’s competition with the hosts playing Australia after Britain face off with North Korea and The Netherlands take on Slovenia.

The round robin formatted competition will go on until Saturday (April 8).
