Brazil’s Gustavo "Guto" Carvalhaes and Pedro Solberg have made International Volley Federation (FIVB) World Tour history after winning a match for the ninth-straight day.

The record-breaking win came at the five-star event in Gstaad in Switzerland as the top-seeded duo secured their place in the main draw by beating Germany’s Armin Dollinger and Jonathan Erdmann 21-16, 21-13 at the Eisbahn Areal.

Guto and Solberg have won 11 matches during the nine-day period, which started in Poreč on June 26.

The run was headlined by their gold medal match victory in the Croatian town on Sunday (July 2), when they overcame Italy’s Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai.

"It’s an incredible streak," Guto said.

"Each match is tough and we have to play our best.

"Winning the gold medal in Poreč on Sunday was the highlight of my beach volleyball career.

"I just hope we can keep it going, but it will be tough as every team is out to win, especially against the last tournament’s winners."

Guto and Solberg put themselves in a position to break the record today by defeating compatriots Vitor Felipe and George Wanderley 21-16, 14-21, 15-12 in a country quota match yesterday.
