Olympic silver medallists Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai fell to a second defeat in as many days at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach World Tour event in Gstaad.

The Italians were surprisingly beaten yesterday by Qatari duo Jefferson Santos Pereira and Cherif Younousse, seeded 29th, at the Eisbahn Areal in the Swiss Alps village.

Chile’s Marco and Esteban Grimalt were their opponents today and the South Americans consigned them to another defeat after claiming a 21-19, 16-21, 15-11 success.

Santos Pereira and Younousse could not follow up their opening victory with a second today.

Despite taking the opening set, the Qatari duo fell to a 22-24, 26-24, 15-11 defeat to the United States’ Jacob Gibb and Taylor Crabb.

Brazil's Gustavo "Guto" Carvalhaes and Pedro Solberg became the second men’s team in the 30-season history of the FIVB Beach World Tour to win an event after starting the competition in the country quota rounds in Poreč last week.

They were beaten 21-16, 21-19 by Mexican duo Lombardo Ontiveros and Juan Virgen today.
