Reigning champions Canada and hosts Argentina remain undefeated at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Women's AmeriCup after both nations picked up victories in Buenos Aires today.

Canada got their third win in Group B with a 65-39 success over Mexico at the Estadio Obras Sanitarias.

It was in the third quarter that the Canadians effectively sealed their triumph, winning it 21-8.

Niarra Fields was the top performer for the holders with 13 points.

Argentina defeated Venezuela 79-59 to move onto two wins in Group A.

Today’s other match in Group B saw Puerto Rico better their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals with an 81-67 win over Paraguay.

All but one of the Puerto Ricans got points on the scoreboard with Marie Placido leading the way with 14.

The first match of the day in Group A pitted the Virgin Islands against Colombia with the latter claiming their first win of the competition, 70-63.

Tathiana Mosquera was the top scorer for the Colombians with 15.

The top two teams from both groups will progress to the semi-finals.

Three spots are on offer for next year's FIBA Women's World Cup in Spain.

Action is due to continue until August 13 when the final will be played.
