China's Liang Xiaojing won women's 60 metres gold on the second day of the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tehran.

The 20-year-old, a Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games gold medallist, impressed at the Aftab-e Enqelab Sports Complex in the Iranian capital.

Liang achieved a time of 7.20sec in the final to win gold, with Kazakhstan’s Vviktoriya Zyabkina securing silver in 7.39.

The podium was completed by Farzaneh Fasihi of Iran, with the local athlete managing a time of 7.44 for bronze.

Iran's Taftian triumphed in the men's 60m final, as the home favourite finished in a time of 6.51.

He was followed across the line by Qatar’s Ogunode Tosinjoseph and India’s Elakiya Dasan, who ended in 6.63 and a national record 6.67 respectively.

The host nation were also celebrating when Hossein Keyhani won the men’s 3000m event in a time of 8min 37.68sec.

There was also success for Kazakhstan, as Anastasiya Yermakova won the women’s pole vault competition.

Her team-mates Svetlana Golendova and Aigerim Shynazbekova also triumphed in the women’s 400m and 60m hurdles, respectively.

The event is seen as key to athletes' preparations for the IAAF World Indoor Championships, due to take place in Birmingham between March 1 and 4.

Competition will conclude tomorrow.
