Home athlete Oleg Petrovskiy came through the pool stage and preliminary rounds at the International Fencing Federation (FIE) Sabre Grand Prix in Moscow to set up a last-64 clash with second seed Oh Sang-uk of South Korea.

The Russian advanced from Pool Four before beating Argentina's Pascual Maria Di Tella 15-10 and compatriot Artem Tselyshev by the same scoreline in the preliminaries.

He will go on to meet Oh, who is aiming to achieve his third consecutive FIE Sabre Grand Prix win, in the first round of the main draw at CSKA Arena.

Top seed Eli Dershwitz of the United States also learned who his last-64 opponent would be with Vietnam's Nguyen Van Quyet having earned the right to face him.

Action is due to continue tomorrow.

The men's medallists will be decided come the end of the day, while the women's event will also begin.
