The Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) has launched a national online platform called "Playing into Sports".

Created in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Education, Aspen Institute Romania and the Romanian Commercial Bank, the project aims to promote grassroots sport and encourage children to live active lifestyles.

It is hoped youngsters will be introduced to sport without any material needs, and that their parents will spend quality time practicing with them.

Educational sports exercises are included on the platform, as well as videos covering a number of sports.

The project has been backed by Romanian Olympians and other celebrities who are serving as ambassadors and sharing their expertise and advice.

Boosting the self-esteem of Romanian children is seen as a key goal.

"Kids are natural athletes, but they just don’t know it yet," said COSR President Mihai Covaliu.

"This platform is meant to bring them and their parents to scratch the cover of this marvellous world of sports, get a glimpse of it in a funny way, give the kids the chance to choose which one suits them best and, why not, go further with it in an organised environment and even to a high-performance level.

"In my opinion, the most important aspect of this programme is that it is designed in such a way so as it can eventually become a family matter."

Playing into Sports can be accessed here, while there is also a dedicated YouTube channel.
