Nearly 600 schoolchildren took part in Olympic Day celebrations in Liechtenstein, where they were introduced to new sports and had the opportunity to learn from some of the country's leading sportsmen and women.

It was the biggest sports event held in the tiny Principality since the coronavirus pandemic began in March 2020.

Children in grades four and five of primary schools were able to visit a total of 27 different sports across the country, presented by associations and clubs from Liechtenstein.

A group of 120 coaches gave up their time to help teach the children.

Many of the children participating took advantage of the weather by walking or cycling to events.

They were easily recognisable in their blue "Olympic Day" tee-shirts.

Among those taking part was Liechtenstein’s Prime Minister Daniel Risch, who tried out several sports while visiting several sites.

Liechtenstein Olympic Committee President Stefan Marxer also visited many of the sports and thanked the governing bodies for helping organise the activities.
